It’s been a long while since we are hearing a name that has generated a hubbub everywhere. UAE once got an electric hyper sedan called the Fisker Karma that changed the laws of automotive engineering. However, the brand being ahead of its time, received a lukewarm response. Nearly, half a decade later, the ‘Karma’ moniker witnesses a recuperation with a fully electric Gran Tourer jointly developed by Pininfarina and the Californian automaker, Karma deriving a lot of its aesthetics on the inside from the older Karma. It’s simply called the Karma GT Concept and is here to change the game completely.

EXTERIOR

The new Karma certainly looks stunning with its sleek lines, heavy contours on the edges, a fastback roofline and chiseled taillights.

The GT doesn’t reminisce the older Karma which means that Fisker aficionados wouldn’t be able to tell the car from a distance.

Upfront, there is an elongated hood, synonymous with every GT with sharp flowing lines integrating into the grille. The sides have been contoured for a more muscular look. There is a large strip of L-shaped LEDs flowing seamlessly for an aggressive appeal. To provide the car with an angry looking posture, there has been made clever use of gigantic air intakes with chrome appliques. Further, the bumper has been divided into two sections and is nicely outlined by a matte-black strip.

From the side, the car gives us an understanding that it wants to get to the business straight away. Because of which, the concept reveals a minimalistic layout with only those credentials that accentuate its performance. For instance, the corpulent fenders, flared wheel arches, flamboyant 5 spoke alloy wheels and a small crease are the only substances to be found highlighting its side profile.

The rear is characterized by long and bulky overhangs, a stubby boot and wedge-shaped taillights for an unforgettable pose. As expected, there is a humongous rear diffuser with small red strips that house in the air vents.

INTERIOR

It’s a surprise on the inside as the cabin reminds a lot of the Karma sedan. You will be treated by an idiosyncrasy in the form of the oddly spoked steering wheel. The instrument binnacle trying to be as modern as it can, features an all-digital theme that shows the distance to empty for the battery, the speedometer and turn indicators when using navigation.

The center console carries an uncluttered silhouette. This can be attributed to the gigantic touchscreen interface that includes all the controls- navigation, media, settings, etc. The GT is practical enough with plenty of stowage spaces. The car is expected to come wrapped in Alcantara. Meant to be a 4-seater, it should provide just adequate leg space at the back because of the roof intruding inside owing to its fastback layout. We will have to wait for a word on the gismos on offer until the production version is debuted.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

While the brand embargoes on revealing any details regarding its performance, we expect the same electric drivetrain to invigorate this car that is likely to perform duty on the upcoming Revora sedan. With surprises leaving no bounds, the sedan form is likely to come powered by a BMW sourced 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine coupled with two electric motors for a combined output of 535 hp and 746 Nm of torque. We will have to wait until the marque unconcealed its specifications on the gearbox options and the naught to 100 Km/h time.

VERDICT

It will be known about its rivals only when the automaker conceives a fully production ready vehicle and lets out its prices. In isolation, the Karma GT has been spruced up with all the comfort-oriented components inevitable for something positioned as a GT. The electric powertrain is the future and the GT beautifully ticks it. While its on-paper figures might not be as exciting as its gasoline powered counterparts, we still expect it to take things to a whole new level.
