Quick Review

Since its launch in 2010, the Peugeot RCZ has picked up a raft of awards, both for its stunning good looks and for the driving experience it offers. The 2012 model continues in the same vain, despite not having any major alterations to boast of.

The fundamentals remain the same; it is still an extremely beautiful car to look at. It may lack the aggressive poise of the Nissan 370Z, but it is still easy to see the RCZ’s origins as a concept car, and why the public demanded that it did not remain shuttered away in motor shows. The interior is also well appointed, and is nicely turned out regardless of which finish you choose. As you come to expect with this style of coupe, the rear seats are next to useless for human occupants, but they remain a handy place to throw a purse or jacket to save opening the ample trunk.

The performance also doesn’t disappoint. Driving enthusiasts will want to choose the turbo-charged variant of the 1.6 liter engine, which generates 200 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, which is enough to propel the RCZ from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The handling is light and agile, with the RCZ cornering flat, and with less under-steer than you might expect from the front engine, front wheel drive layout. In terms of overall performance and handling, it remains competitive with the 2.0 liter, 4-wheel drive Audi TT, but it still provides a lot of thrills.

Where the RCZ really stands out from the crowd is in the fuel economy. The ultra-modern design of the engine allows it to reach combined figures of 6.7 l/100 km, and a very impressive 8.8 l/100 km in urban driving.

For raw driving pleasure, the Audi TT provides tough competition. However, if you’re likely to spend more time looking good than driving hard, then the RCZ is a real show-stopper.
