Quick Review

The Toyota Zelas, known as the Scion tC in many other parts of the world is now available in the Middle East. The Zelas is a sporty yet practical car that is aimed at the youth. The price has been set keeping this in mind.

The Zelas come with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine that is capable of producing 176 horsepower and 230 Nm. With a 0 – 100 time of 8.9 seconds, it is fair to say that the Zelas has more "show" than "go". Major let downs in the Zelas include the front wheel drive system and lack of a manual transmission option.

In terms of the interior, the Zelas is surprisingly a lot roomier than expected. All controls are driver oriented and this is a great plus point. However, a cheap stereo without USB, abundance of hard plastics and terrible cargo space are places the Zelas disappoints.

As for the exterior, the front end looks brilliant. The headlights and large air vents on the bumper give the Zelas a much sportier stance. The rear end doesn't look all that great though and possibly would look better if it came with dual exhaust tips.

With only a small difference in price between the Zelas and the newly introduced rear-wheel drive Toyota 86, it probably makes more sense to have a look at that if you want a real sports car on a budget. Other competitors for the Zelas include the Nissan Altima Coupe, Honda Accord Coupe and the Kia Cerato Koup.
