Abarth had been making Fiat performance exhausts and tuning kits for a decade before it introduced the original 595 at the Turin motor show back in 1963. These 595 models has proved an immediate hit like the original, its size and surprising turn of speed guaranteeing its legendary status.

Powering the 595 is a 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine with an IHI RHF3-P turbocharger, this model punches out 175bhp. The Transmission is a five-speed Auto with paddle shifters. Given the car’s trim, kerb weight is around 1100kg, it packs a power-to-weight ratio better than most hot hatches on the market.

The suspension spec is similarly promising, there are 17-inch alloy wheels, lowered sports springs, beefed-up anti-roll bars and Koni FSD selective dampers.

On this model the interior is more practical, better adapted to a full-sized hot supermini. Dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable door mirrors, rear parking sensors, and Fiat's infotainment system complete with a 5.0in touchscreen display, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.
