Quick Review

The Hyundai Veloster is an innovative car on ever level. Though it may look like any other hatchback, that's where the similarities end. Though the Veloster boasts an extremely sporty and aggressive appearance, the way it drives is far from it.

The Veloster is equipped with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine that is capable of producing 130 horsepower and 157 Nm of torque. Mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the Veloster achieves 100km/h from a standstill in 10 seconds flat and reaches a top speed of 185 km/h. The combination of a small engine, an automatic transmission and the lack of a turbocharger, reenforces the point that the Veloster isn't a true driving enthusiast's car. To combat this issue though, Hyundai have launched a turbocharged variant of the Veloster however, it isn't likely to make it's way into the Middle Eastern markets.

As for the interior, the center console follows a very similar design to the Hyundai Sonata and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Although hard plastics do comprise majority of the interior, we love the push start button start being positioned on the center console since not only is it an innovate idea but it looks great too! Rear seating is tight and uncomfortable and preferably only used by children. Though boot isn't anything to brag about, fitting your weekly groceries should not be an issue.

From the exterior, there is no denying that the Veloster is a fantastic looking car! It will turn heads whether you're in traffic or cruising along the highway and that's something you will have to begin to live with. The most striking thing about the Veloster though is the fact that it only has 3 doors and though it might not sound very practical, we appreciate the innovativeness Hyundai.

All in though, the Veloster is a car that is more concerned with “show” than “go” and it wont take you long to realize that when the accelerator pedal is pushed all the way in. If however, you prefer more conventional hatchbacks, we recommend the Volkswagen Scirocco and Renault Megane.
