Ford Edge 2012 Review

In 2012, Ford released a couple of new Edge models to their popular series.

The Edge Sport version has 305-hp sport tuning while the standard version will still offer you 285 hp. All versions have a very firm ride that isn't too bumpy, fairly quick steering and the tall-wagon handling which positions all models as great option for family commuters.

One of the major advantages with the Ford Edge is the Ecoboost engine. With fuel costs rising rapidly, car manufacturers are getting increasingly conscious of providing great fuel economy. The 2012 Ford Edge Ecoboost model has the new 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine to cater for just this need.

Many other Fords such as the F-150 and Taurus SHO have a 3.7 litre and 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V-6 Ecoboost engine. With the Ford Edge and Explorer models comes a new wave of this development. Just be aware that you can only get it in front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic with this model.

You can upgrade your Ford Edge with parking sensors, blind-spot monitors, and now a rear-view camera. However it is lacking some of the most cutting-edge safety features such as inflatable rear seat belts that you can get with competing models like the seven-seater 2012 Explorer.

The MyFord Touch control panel is great for Apple enthusiasts that enjoy touch screen management. It uses Bluetooth and involves voice and steering-wheel-button commands to manage functions such as climate control and navigation.

Because some will find the Edge's suspension too firm, I recommend you look into other similarly priced models such as the GMC Terrain or Nissan Murano, if you think this would bother you.

Not a major reinvention, but the changes for 2012 are worthwhile. Its more spacious interior and new technology are the main selling points of the 2012 model.
