What does a car need to perfect to transform itself into an icon, become a household name for the denizens of a region and build an identity for itself distinct from the brand? Without any verbiage, it has to become a Nissan Patrol. This rugged legend has played an instrumental role in trailblazing a direction for SUVs with its reliability, luxury, enormous amounts of space, ton of convenient bells and whistles and oomph to make it ford through any challenging landscape without breaking a sweat.

As the brand’s flagship SUV marks its 70th anniversary, Nissan celebrated the moment in pomp and show at the Al Wasl Plaza of Expo 2020 Dubai where the car was staged on the podium besides a new generation of the Pathfinder SUV which made its debut years after the outgoing model saw the light of the day in the region.

Nissan’s Global Chief Operating Officer, Ashwani Gupta began the celebration with addressing the audience followed by providing a glance at the brand’s journey so far and the evolutions it has witnessed through which it was able to provide an impulse to the revolution in the automobile industry. This was made possible via a visual projection on the stage.

This event was experienced with obsequiousness by important expo and global Nissan execs, partners, employees, VIPs, consumers, local media and other visitors at the Expo. This will add to the brand’s success in its initiative to hold a one-year long celebration for the completion of 7 decades by the mile clocking machine and spinning heritage transcending limits of globetrotting. The 70th Anniversary model gets “70th Anniversary” branding and technological enhancements.

Where the Patrol was being inexorably highlighted at one end, Nissan made sure it had something even more pleasurable to offer to its audience. It was the all-new Pathfinder three-row SUV. In its new avatar, it becomes bolder and sharper to look at and fully redesigned under the shell too. It is likely to become better on all grounds where the existing model has delivered so brilliantly.

Ashwani Gupta, Chief Operating Officer at Nissan Motor Company, said: “For drivers across generations, the Nissan Patrol has been more than just a vehicle; it offers its customers reliability, power and luxury while taking on any terrain in absolute comfort. Today marks a historic moment for our company as we celebrate Nissan’s longest-running nameplate. This is an important milestone for us – as we look back at the success of the last 70 years, we are firmly focused on the future. Combining the tried and trusted with the new, Nissan is moving to the next chapter of its legacy, redefining possibilities and shaping the future, today.”

In addition to the badge, the 70th anniversary model raves of a new version of its iconic family grille tagged as the ‘V-Motion’ grille, revamped bumper, newly designed 20” diamond-cut alloy wheels, burgundy enveloped interiors and an overhauled centre console. The most notable difference is the 12.3” infotainment screen orientation which can be used to pair devices through wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is expected to provide greater connectivity, pliant ride and handling mannerisms and a compendium of new-age features such as advanced version of the brand’s ProPILOT active safety system which assuages the impact of highway stop-go traffic, a 12.3” digital display for the dashboard and a 10.8” Head-Up Display on select trims. A new 9-speed automatic transmission has been commissioned to lunge the car forward suavely and eke out generous fuel efficiency numbers.

Thierry Sabbagh, Managing Director at Nissan Middle East, said: “For decades, Nissan’s extensive SUV line-up has deepened our connection to the region, each model expertly catering to the evolving needs of our customers and enriching their lives. Today we make history as two of our beloved nameplates take center stage at Expo 2020 Dubai, celebrating our heritage in the region and looking forward to the future. Serving as a beacon for the next 70 years, the 2022 Nissan Patrol continues to offer our customers regal luxury and connectivity, while the all-new Pathfinder boasts ruggedness and advance tech in equal measure. We look forward to seeing both models play an important role as we continue our success story in the Middle East, with the support of our trusted partners, local stakeholders, and valuable customers.”
