Sharjah reinstated taxi fares after petrol and diesel prices in the UAE fell in August. The minimum fare for taxis has been reduced to Dh15.50 from Dh17.50, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) with helpline agents confirmed.

Taxi riders who utilized SRTA services in the first week of August additionally confirmed the drop in minimum fares.

The minimum charge expanded last month from Dh13.50 to Dh17.50, after the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), said it would set its taxi fees every month in accordance with the most recent fuel prices in the country.

The choice, made by the Sharjah Executive Council, was carried out by SRTA. Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, chairman of the SRTA, stated that the adjustment depends on the standard of changing fuel costs, as the fee for opening the meter will be changed either by increase or reduction depending on the fuel pricing endorsed by the Ministry of Energy.

The prices of fuel have decreased in the UAE in the month of August in compared to last month as super petrol 98 price has decreased to Dh4.03/liter from Dh4.03/liter, and special petrol 95 has decreased to Dh3.92/liter from Dh4.52/liter in July.
