Nissan X Trail 2019 Front

Nissan first dropped the seemingly unknown X Trail into the highly fierce crossover segment almost two decades ago. Today, the X Trail is one of the most popular cars in its segment but is also the Japanese brand’s best-selling car throughout the globe. Currently in its third generation, the new 2019 X Trail remains one of the best buys within its segment.

Over the years, Nissan has made several improvements to keep the X Trail relevant in a cutthroat environment of crossovers. However, the new X Trail faces some noteworthy opponents, and these include the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Kia Sportage.

Exterior

Unlike its boxier predecessors, the new 2019 Nissan X Trail wears a stylish and sophisticated outfit. Gone are the squared off edges, now replaced by curvier edges and sleek contours. The front fascia proudly wears the Nissan’s signature chrome-laden V-Motion grille. Right beside the grille are a set of new headlamps that also get cool, arrow-shaped LED daytime-running lights.

The side profile of new X Trail is dominated by pronounced front fenders, and along with the large alloy wheels, give off a really muscular demeanor to this family-friendly crossover. As with most crossovers these days, there’s ample use of black body cladding on the X Trail to further propagate its toughness. At the back, the taillamps have a cool wrap-around design and incorporate LED elements too. There are two strips of chrome here, one’s right above the plate holder on the tailgate, while the other is integrated onto rear diffuser.

The new X Trail is large than previous models and can now carry up to 7 people. Lengthwise, it measures 4.690 meters, while width is 1.830 meters, height is 1.740 meters, and wheelbase is 2.705 meters. With all three rows in place, the boot capacity is only 135 liters.

Interior

Just like its younger stablemate the Kicks, the interior of the new X Trail is a nice place to be in. From the overall design theme to the feel of the materials used, Nissan has ensured that one of its most popular cars continue to evolve and improve. The build quality of the X Trail continues to remain a strong suit, plus the addition of several soft touchpoints and a dual-tone trimmings help lift the ambiance within the cabin.

Features are aplenty, and the X Trail comes with conveniences such as cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, leathery seats and cabin trimmings, cooled front cup holders, power sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a 6-speaker sound system. The list also includes keyless entry & go, 360-degree camera, parking sensors, adaptive LED headlights with LED DRLs, front and rear fog lamps, and large 19-inch rims.

The safety kit on-board comprises of 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, moving object detection (MOD), intelligent trace control (ITC), intelligent rearview mirror (IRVM), hill start assist, hill descent control, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and a selectable 4WD system for improved traction.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Nissan X Trail comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 169 HP and 233 Nm of torque. The power is either sent to the front wheels (in 2WD variants) or all fours via a CVT gearbox. The top speed of the X Trail is 170 km/h, while the ton-mark is only reached in 11.0 seconds. This crossover is quite frugal, and can achieve a fuel economy figure of 6.5L/100 km.
