The midsize crossover SUV segment is one that barely rests, and cars in this segment are some of the most popular in the region. One of the best-selling examples of this category of vehicles is the Nissan Pathfinder. The first generation of the Nissan Pathfinder rolled out of the factory back in 1986, and quickly garnered a reputation for itself among buyers. Some of its earlier iterations were actually built on rigid ladder-frame chassis, which has now given way to a more modern monocoque shell.

Now in its fourth generation, the Pathfinder has become more popular than ever before, and is one Nissan’s fastest-selling cars in the Middle East. Chief contenders that share this part of the market along with the Pathfinder include the Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, Kia Sorento, and Ford Explorer.

Exterior

The exterior design of the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder features curves, bulges, and some interesting lines. Overall, the design language of this latest avatar Pathfinder projects a tamer and ‘softer’ approach to the otherwise boxy shapes of its predecessors and even some other crossovers in the segment. The front end features the prominent Nissan-trademark V-Motion grille, plus a beefy front bumper that gets integrated fog lights and a faux skid plate. The well-sculpted hood looks good, and so does the contemporary-looking headlamp cluster with LED DRLs.

The side profile reveals the huge 20-inch alloy wheels, large roof rails, plus black plastic cladding under the doors and bumpers. The back gets a rooftop spoiler, wrap-around taillights, and dual chrome strips – one above the plate holder, the other on the rear bumper.

The new Pathfinder is now significantly larger than older models, and that’s evident. It is now grown to 5.008 meters in length, 1.960 meters in width, 1.783 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.900 meters. Boot capacity with all three rows in place is a decent 453 liters.

Nissan Pathfinder 2019 Interior

Interior

The cabin of the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder is now a much better place when compared to its predecessors. The quality of materials used has vastly improved, and there are several soft-touch surfaces. The swooping lines and contours, along with the dual-tone interior and wooden-trim help elevate the premium feel of the cabin further.

Space is abundant and carrying 7 passengers is a non-issue. The high ceiling and large increase visibility and provide an airy feel to the occupants. The general build quality and the fit and finish of materials is commendable, and there are enough storage areas as well. The features list is vast and includes items such as tri-zone climate control, power-operated and heated front seats with memory function, leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry & go, power tailgate, remote engine start, cruise control, a 13-speaker premium Bose sound system, and an 8-inch touch-infotainment display with navigation.

Safety gadgets include the usual array of multiple airbags and electronic nannies to keep everybody safe. Buyers can also opt for the AWD version for added traction, plus these ones also get hill descent control as an added extra.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder comes with a 3.5-liter, naturally-aspirated V6 that develops 271 HP and 340 Nm of torque. Power is usually sent to the front wheels, but some can also be directed to the rear (in AWD variants) when wheel slip is detected.

The Pathfinder will cross the ton in 7.6 seconds, and will go on to a top whack of 192 km/h. Despite its V6 heart and big bulk, this three-row crossover can still achieve 9.0L/100 km.
