It is not just Mitsubishi Motors, but almost every major automaker in the world understands that their bread-and-butter models in most markets stem from their sale of crossovers/SUVs. One of the most profitable of these comes under the banner ‘Compact SUV,’ which is often marketed as the right choice for buyers – despite mostly only being good in an urban setting. Of course, whether you are an individual or a family person, modern-day compact SUVs usually do a stellar job of satisfying your needs.

The Mitsubishi Outlander began its life back in 2001, but it wasn’t until the second-generation model, which became globally known as the Outlander (even in Japan), that the SUV actually succeeded in penetrating some of the major markets all over the world – including the United Arab Emirates. The new Mitsubishi Outlander, which debuted in 2021, sits atop a new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture. The Mitsubishi Outlander’s closest competitors in the UAE are the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4.

Design

Where the previous-gen car was modeled using softer exterior tones with little to no muscular lines, the new Mitsubishi Outlander proudly presents itself as an urban SUV that features a strong and muscular posture. Showcasing its pride up front is the bold ‘OUTLANDER’ lettering at the tip of the hood, along with a beefy front bumper with thick chrome bands – highlighting the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield design language.

The prominent front fascia of the Mitsubishi Outlander further imposes its will by boasting a muscular-looking hood. This pumped-up bumper design scores a stylish skid plate add-on, stacked headlamps with an ‘eyebrow’ LED lighting unit above them and LED foglights underneath, plus a flowing but beefy-looking front fender. With a length of 4,710 mm and a wheelbase of 2,705 mm, the side profile of the Outlander shows off this SUV’s physical footprint really well.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander’s exterior further promotes its assertiveness with its large 20-inch alloy wheels, strong character lines, black door pillars, and a faux floating roofline that looks quite nice – this flat roof leads to a sharply-raked rear window and a sporty-looking spoiler. The modern and sleek LED taillights add more style to the Outlander’s exterior, while the sculpted rear bumper features a faux skid plate. Even though its front-end design is similar to that of the Mitsubishi XPander Cross, the Outlander is certainly more ‘SUV’ in its appeal.

Interior

The interior of the new Mitsubishi Outlander feels plenty spacious, especially in its 5-seater form. However, even the 7-seater Outlander offers enough space and flexibility to please families that prefer comfort along with the ability to carry two extra occupants if & when there is a requirement. The third-row seats can be folded away from the tailgate area with the help of simple pull tabs, while proper side-mounted seatbelts provide a sense of safety.

All three rows of seats get cupholders, storage areas, and charging solutions for your electronic devices. There is no dearth of headroom for those in the second row, with ISOFIX anchor points that are easy to access. The front & rear windows are sufficiently large, while the leather-clad front seats offer the requisite amount of support and comfort. The front of the Outlander’s interior sports a modern design, where we find a sleek AC vent design that stretches from the engine start-stop button to the extreme right of the dashboard.

Customers can also opt for a dual-tone leather interior with contrast stitching, where hints of metallic and piano black trim make one feel the sense of luxury that Mitsubishi is trying to promote here – fit & finish in many places is quite impressive as well. Having said that, the way the shift-by-wire gear selector operates feels unsatisfying and can frustrate some people. The 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and the 9-inch central display make this cabin feel pretty technologically advanced.

Features

The Mitsubishi Outlander comes with plenty of features that will impress those who want a relatively budget-friendly family SUV with certain modern amenities. Some of the few features that are likely to draw attention from prospective buyers include the two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated & power-operated wing mirrors with memory function, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, Android Auto & wireless Apple CarPlay, and front seats with power lumbar & massaging functions.

Then there are other modern features that you will notice upon spending some time with the new Outlander. These include the likes of tri-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, 7 airbags, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and a multitude of passive & active safety nannies.

Specifications

The Mitsubishi Outlander specs see motive force coming from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which employs direct injection for optimizing performance and fuel efficiency. This four-banger provides 181 hp and 245 Nm of peak torque while being capable of utilizing Mitsubishi’s S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system that can drive all four wheels.

The Mitsubishi Outlander can go all the way up to 191 km/h, with its fuel consumption ranging from 13.9 – 14.7 km/L (6.8 – 7.2 L/100 km). On the other hand, the Mitsubishi Outlander towing capacity stands at around 900 kg.

Price

The cost of buying a new Mitsubishi Outlander in the UAE can exceed AED 95,000, depending on the trim level. If you are looking to buy used cars in Dubai, cheap used cars in Dubai, or renting a car in UAE, then YallaMotor has you covered.
