Behold: The Nissan Z safety car

The Nissan Z, one of the most anticipated Nissans of recent history, will be a safety car in the Super GT race series. And Nissan hasn’t just gone and put some fancy stickers on the Z, instead it worked with its motorsport arm Motorsports & Customizing Co. Ltd. to give the Nissan Z some serious goodies for its safety car duties. 

The Nissan Z has got in-grille safety car lights, a light bar across the roof and some Bosch and Super GT decals, of course. Inside you will find Recaro race seats with red safety belts coming from Nismo which give the interior a very sporty and aggressive look.

Nissan has remained coy regarding the changes under the bonnet but the standard Z has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that is capable of producing 400 horsepower so we expect the safety car to offer similar performance.

While the sales of the Nissan Z will begin in the summer, the Nissan Z safety car made its debut on May 29 at the third round of the 2022 Super GT Race Series season taking place at the Suzuka Circuit race track in Japan. Nissan says that by entering the Z as a safety car, it wants to “broaden the Z’s fan base and increase the exposure of the Super GT series.”

Takao Katagiri, head of Nissan's Motorsports Business Unit Office and president of Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC), said, “This year we began competing in the Super GT with the Nissan Z GT500. Now the Z — the embodiment of Nissan DNA — will support the series’ safety.”
