Review: Please do not go for GMC by Ramya Murali

We have taken a new car Acadia Denali from GMC, Muscat on 22nd June 2016 with a down payment of RO. 4000 and paid an insurance fee of RO. 400, as the cost of the car is RO 20,250. After one month, on 22nd july 2016, our car met with an accident, due to brake failure. While contacting GMC dealers we came to know that the car lost the brake because of manufacturing defect. GMC dealers prepared the inspection report in handwritten format. In that they have mentioned that the car has no technical issue. While asking about the report, GMC dealers told that if they are mentioning the technical issue in the report, they will not be able to claim the insurance and that’s why they are making the report in handwritten format. They have prepared the report on 31st July 2016 and put the signature with the date of 30th July 2016.

As the car is having manufacture defect, we do not have confidence to take the same car, so we requested them either to replace the car or to upgrade into Yukon. They agreed to upgrade the vehicle and as per that we book a new Yukon. Once the car came to the showroom, they told that they will not be able to deliver Yukon, as our finance team is not ready to upgrade the finance amount. So GMC dealers told us they can replace the car and asked to book the same Acadia Denali model. As per that we booked the same model with different color. That car also came to the showroom on Sunday 14th August 2016. After that, they are asking for RO. 4700 + insurance fee by saying that they are charging this amount for the damages of the car, which is caused due to accident and also we have to pay the amount by cash. Otherwise they will not release the new car. At the same time they have asked us to sign a paper saying that we are selling our car to GMC for an amount of RO 12,500, parallelly they have approved another loan from another finance team for the new car.

We are afraid to take the car that we met with an accident due to brake failure. We feel that our life is not safe in that car. We are struggling for two months because of the irresponsible nature of GMC dealers. The reason for the accident is brake failure and that is also due to manufacturing defect, but they are asking RO 4,700 for the damages caused because of the accident. In their package they are telling, they will help us without any charge if anything happened to the car anywhere in the Oman. But when the accident is happened, their recovery team take the car but we had to pay recovery charge. We are really fed up with GMC dealers and they are making a lot of pressure on us.
